Hit the gym in Monaco style

A mild Mediterranean climate, an outdoor lifestyle, an endless array of glamourous locations (and people) – everywhere you turn in Monaco you’ll discover inspiration to make – and keep – your fitness resolutions. If you’re yet to kick-start your new year, new fitness regime, here is the fit list; five of the best Monaco gyms and fitness facilities sure to set pulses racing.

Best Al Fresco: Boost

Some mornings are simply too beautiful to stay indoors, and that’s where Boost comes in. With the sublime sunrises (and sunsets) overlooking superyachts on Monaco’s Port Hercules as a backdrop, the Antipodean founders of Boost have taken their gym al fresco. Boost/Camp, its signature program, is a total body workout designed to improve muscular strength and fitness level over a six week schedule of unlimited group training sessions.

Best Hotel: Fairmont

Inside the fitness centre of Monaco’s luxurious Fairmont Monte Carlo hotel, floor to ceiling windows offer sweeping views of the Monaco city scape and the Fairmont Hairpin, the famous turn of the F1 Grand Prix track – there’s no need for TV screens to motivate you here! As with most hotel gyms, memberships are available for outside guests which open the door to some of the best fitness facilities in the Principality, including a gym floor equipped with renowned Italian Technogym equipment, a hammam and sauna, a weekly timetable of classes including yoga, stretching and spinning and a heated roof-top pool with uninterrupted views of the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. On-site parking available.

Best for Privacy: 39 Monte Carlo

There’s a strictly monitored social media policy at 39 Monte Carlo and once you see its clientele, you can understand why. With a member list that reads like a who’s who of elite athletes, including top ten ATP World Tour tennis players, Team Sky racing and Premier League footballers, the last thing management of this prestigious private sports club want are rogue workout selfies splashed across Facebook with current world number 4 tennis star Grigor Dimitrov on the weights in the background. But, then again, in Monaco discretion is paramount – which is why this club and gym in Monaco has experienced exponential growth since it opened in October 2016. Along with an enormous sports floor, designed with elite athletes in mind, the club has become a home-away-from-home for many of its members, with a restaurant, boardroom, and beauty centre.

Best Access: Larvotto Gym Center

Sometimes the best workout intentions can be derailed by seemingly small details like access – if you’re going to spend half your time finding a parking spot, what’s the point in going? Enter Larvotto Gym Centre, the perfect Monaco gym destination for the easily distracted fitness enthusiast! Not only does the centre, which opened in 2004, boast a prime waterfront location along the promenade at Larvotto Beach, but easy underground parking removes one common obstacle to hitting the gym. Along with the cardio fitness space, nearly 50 collective classes are offered per week; including Zumba, abdominal training, spinning, yoga and circuit training.

Best Lifestyle: Monte Carlo Country Club

Famous for hosting the week-long Rolex Monte Carlo Masters World Tour Masters 1000 Tournament every April, there’s more to the Monte Carlo Country Club (MCCC) then the fine ochre-red dust of clay. For the remaining 51 weeks of the year, the venue is the definition of a country club: with sporting and social facilities including a six hole putting green, squash courts, a snooker room, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, and an 170 square metre fitness centre. Still not satisfied? The MCCC boasts a selection of dining options and an exclusive outdoor swimming pool complete with a whirlpool bath and waterfall.

There are many forms to motivation: perhaps it comes from the beat of your favourite track surrounded by fellow fitness enthusiasts or perhaps it’s found in having round the clock access with state of the art home fitness facilities. Either way, it’s hard not to be inspired to keep fit living in Monaco. Need home fitness inspiration?
