How to Make Your Modern Gaming Experience More Manageable

In 2022, you’d be hard-pressed to find a gaming enthusiast who isn’t dealing with a massive backlog of titles. From big-name AAA releases to under-the-radar sleeper hits, there’s seemingly never been more variety in the world of video games. However, with such an abundance of readily available hardware and software, it’s easy to see why so many of us have trouble keeping the modern gaming experience manageable. If this sentiment resonates with you, the following pointers are likely to serve you well.

Stick to One Game at a Time

With so many interesting titles from which to choose, it’s only natural that many of us would be tempted to tackle multiple games at once. However, while this may provide you with short-term enjoyment, it’s hardly conducive to a manageable backlog. So, unless you have unlimited free time on your hands, you’d do well to stick to one game at a time.

Although you may think this will mean getting to play fewer games, this approach actually stands to increase the number of games you play and finish in a given year. The prospect of getting to play other games that interest you can serve as a powerful incentive to complete the games you’re currently working on in a timely and efficient manner.

Of course, this isn’t to say that there isn’t room for flexibility. For example, if you’re currently working on a long-form, narrative-heavy game, taking a break to indulge in a fighter, a kart racer or any other type of pick-up-and-play game should generally be okay. However, take care to stick to one RPG or open-world adventure game at a time, as tackling multiple long-form games at once stands to adversely impact your completion rate.

Don’t Get Hung Up on Purchasing New Games at Launch

The desire to own a game at launch is perfectly understandable. After all, if you’ve been eagerly anticipating a certain title for years, it makes sense that you’d want to snatch it up as soon as it’s released. However, while this approach to game-buying is certainly good for publishers and developers, it may not be great for your pocketbook or gaming backlog.

Unless there’s a pre-order bonus you’re hankering for or you really want to support the publisher and/or developer, it isn’t necessary to purchase every title that interests you at launch. Even if you’ve been looking forward to a certain title, why buy it immediately if you won’t have the bandwidth to play it for the foreseeable future? In addition to contributing to an unmanageable backlog, you’ll probably wind up spending more money than you need to. Given how quickly video games tend to drop in price, waiting just a few months to purchase a new title can save you a considerable sum.

So, the next time you’re tempted to buy a game at launch, take some time to consider how many titles are currently populating your backlog and whether you’d be playing this game right away or simply adding it to the pile. As an added bonus, waiting to purchase a game often means that by the time you get around to buying it, many of the bugs that bothered people at launch will have been fixed.

Make Sure You’re Getting the Best Visual Experience Possible

To call amazing graphics a big part of the modern gaming experience would be an understatement. Although attractive visuals are by no means the only tenet of a good game, they’re far from insignificant. So, if your current television is unable to do justice to the graphical capabilities of modern consoles, you’d do well to consider an upgrade. Furthermore, if eye trouble is preventing you from being able to appreciate the visuals in your favorite games, consider investing in a stylish pair of Cartier men’s glasses.

Although gaming is meant to be a hobby that’s conducive to enjoyment and relaxation, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the sheer abundance of options. With new titles consistently being released in large numbers, many of us have accumulated more games than we know what to do with. Needless to say, this stands to turn a treasured hobby into a source of stress. Fortunately, keeping things manageable is much easier than some of us make it look. Anyone looking to prevent their modern gaming experience from becoming overwhelming should adopt the measures discussed above.
