So… birddogs Just Buttbanged Their Way Into My Winter Wardrobe. And I’m Here For It

When I think of warm, high-quality winter clothing, I don’t think of a shorts company. Well, now I do. Because birddogs – the company that invented super comfortable lined shorts you can run, golf, and swim in – just announced their biggest invention yet: thermal lined quarter-zips.

I take outdoor clothing pretty seriously. I run a “don’t touch the thermostat, just put on a sweater” household (blame my pops), and I couldn’t change that part of my personality with anything short of a lobotomy. Plus, my part of town gets absolutely freezing and stays that way through April.

So when I saw more and more guys wearing the birddogs quarter-zip out and about, I caved and got two to try on.

Thermal-ness: 9/10

This thing is definitely warmer than it looks. The secret is a warming liner that’s sewn into the quarter-zip itself. If you happen to break a sweat in them, it dries right away like it never happened.

Fit: 10/10

Because the q-zip keeps you warm without piling on a ton of fabric, it has a streamlined fit that looks awesome. And even though it’s stretchy, it doesn’t stretch out. I’ve washed mine a few times (on a hot cycle, whoops) and the shape is still perfect out of the dryer.

Variety: 6/10

birddogs doesn’t have an excellent variety for these things. There’s only four styles – the Ash Stretchum, Grover Cincinnati, Chef Goldblum, and Samwise Ganja. They’re various shades of blue, black, and beige. Not particularly inspired, if you ask me.

Comfort: 11/10

The frustration of running a blog is that I can’t physically let you touch the fabric, but trust me when I say it’s crazy soft and stretchy. Like if play-doh and a baby bunny had a baby, it would be this quarter-zip. As I mentioned earlier, it’s sweat-wicking. So it’s not just for cold places – you can wear it comfortably in a warm house all day.

Overall, the birddogs quarter-zip is the new start of my winter wardrobe team. It’s only a matter of time before my other clothes get jealous.
