Some women in Bulgaria think a recent ad showing a woman in a bikini under the slogan ‘the watermelon season is here’ goes too far. The ad has infuriated women’s groups in Bulgaria and 13 women are now suing the beverage company that produced the ad.

Women’s groups claim the ad encourages Bulgaria’s men-folk who are already bad enough. A spokeswoman for one of the groups is quoted as saying “You can’t walk down the street now without some a**hole shouting, ‘Hey – nice watermelons’ and trying to see if they are ripe.”

The legal action has been filed with local authorities and claims that the advertisement “violates European law on equal treatment of sexes in the provision of services.”

What do you think? Is this ad any worse than the Burger King 7-incher ad or the Playboy-Quizno’s ads?

I think the ad’s fine, but I’m a guy. Having said that, anyone who complains so loudly about such an ad has to realize that they’re only helping the advertising company out by giving it even more free publicity. I hope the people who came up with the concept get a raise for doing such a great job.

Not any worse than the other ads, but women are tired of this stuff.
