A few years ago I finally bought a good watch ? a classic Cartier Tank design. I had made some money and wanted to reward myself, but there was something more to the purchase. It was a desire to own something lasting, something that could even be passed down to my kid.
In this modern world where we buy endless gadgets that we grow tired of in a month or two, it feels important to own something personal that will stand the test of time. Women (and lots of guys) feel the same way about that special piece of jewelry ? it connects you to generations past and present.
When I was buying my watch, it would have been a good idea to check out the Jewelry Information Center?s website (www.jic.org) to educate myself. Buying a watch or fine jewelry is a big investment and, like any big purchase, it pays to do your research.
The Jewelry Information Center is not a retailer ? it?s a non-profit organization that gives consumers accurate, reputable information about the jewelry buying process, jewelry trends, care, and shopping tips. Had I perused the JIC watch section before buying my Cartier, I would have learned about the various watch technologies, how to weigh the features and benefits, what to look for in warranties, and what you need to know about after-sale service.
One of the interesting parts of the JIC website is its stories area where people share their personal experiences of buying jewelry and watches. Seeing what other people are thinking about jewelry definitely helps to shape your own outlook. If you post a story, you?ll be entered into JIC?s sweepstakes and have a chance to win a 14K White Gold 1.5 Carat Total Weight ?Journey? Diamond necklace (that?s a photo of it there on the left). Wouldn?t your significant other like that?
