It may not look like what you might expect from 'The Jetsons', but the flying car could be here sooner than you think. The Terrafugia Transition - known as "The Flying Car" - could hit the roads and the skies by early 2011.

The Transition recently completed 28 flights as the first of four stages to bring the car to market. The vehicle reportedly handles well on the road and flies like a standard small airplane.

The Transition amazingly transforms from plane to car in less than 30 seconds with the touch of a button. With its wings folded up, the vehicle can fit inside a single car garage. It even takes unleaded gas like a regular car.

The vehicle is specially designed for inclement weather. If the weather changes, the pilot can land at the nearest airport, fold up the wings, and drive to his destination instead. The Transition uses front wheel drive while on the road and a propeller for flying.

The flying car is expected to cost around $200,000 when it hits the market. The CEO of Terrafugia says he already has 60 deposits of $10,000. For more photos of the Transition in action, check out the Terrafugia website.
