If you?re an aspiring politician, here are a few tips to keep you out of trouble:
1. Try not to grope women in public. I know, it?s hard.
2. If you must grope women in public, make sure no one takes a photograph of you doing so.
3. If you must let someone take your photo groping a woman, absolutely, positively make sure that photo doesn?t end up on Facebook.
Alas, Canadian Ray Lam, a candidate for a provincial post in British Columbia, failed to follow these helpful suggestions and has been forced to drop out of the race. Lam himself posted a photo of him, yes, groping a woman (though to be fair the woman was clothed and also to be fair, Lam is gay).
Another photo posted on Facebook shows Lam with his pants down and two people pulling at his underwear. Geez, I don’t see why that would be a problem.
“An issue was made regarding inappropriate material on my private Facebook page. I regret this material and the associated comments that have now become public,” Lam said in a prepared statement last Sunday. “I do not want this to be a distraction in the election campaign and have advised the party that I am stepping down.”
The photos became an issue when his opponent Mary McNeil took exception to them.
