Four years ago, Jeffrey Lawal Balogun, 23, was running late for college when he chased after a local bus in Kent in the U.K. A local track coach happened to be walking by at the time and noticed Balogun’s quick pace. Because of that discovery, today Balogun is on the verge of winning a spot on Britain’s Olympic team.
After being spotted running for the bus, Balogun was soon put in contact with Clarence Callender, a leading sprint coach in Britain. With coaching from Callender, Balogun is now ranked sixth on the country at the 60 meter sprint and hopes to compete in the London 2012 Olympics.
Balogun was quoted in the Daily Mirror: “I never thought running after a bus would lead to all this. And the funny thing is, I missed it.”
