The Stars OF This Year's Coachella Were...Holograms Of Dead Rappers?

If anyone needs any more ammunition that Coachella has become more overblown spectacle than actual live music festival, this one's for you.

Last night, for Coachella's closing set, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg performed various songs with 50 Cent, Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, and hologram 2Pac. Yup, the same technology that brought Will.i.am into the studio during CNN's coverage of the 2008 election brought two dead rappers to thousands of festivalgoers.

"2pac" "performed" (I really can't use enough sarcastic quotes in this story) both "Hail Mary" and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted," to the amazement of the crowd. The technology, brought about by AV Concepts, was pretty lifelike, and the dead rapper even managed to name-check Coachella during his intro. The future is now, but apparently so are tasteless decisions.

I'm not saying that 2pac was a venerable saint or anything, but this seems a little tacky, even by overblown theatrical standards. Further, it's disheartening to think about what all that money could have bougth in teh way of performers or more convenient shuttles, rather than lifelike cartoons of dead rappers. Check the video and see what the fuss is all about.
