'The Godfather' Prequel In The Works?
After a long-contentious battle between Paramount Studios and the estate of Mario Puzo, the man who wrote the 'Godfather' books, it seems as though a fragile truce has been reached taht will allow a movie to be made based on 'The Family Corleone', a prequel tale of the mob family. The book wasn't written by Puzo, who can't write books because he's dead, but it was penned based on his outline.
Exactly what is left to tell about the Corleones' rise to power is anyone's guess, as 'Godfather Part II' did a pretty good job of setting up Vito's rise to power from Sicily to Manhattan. However, as we've learned in recent years, one should never doubt the ability of Hollywood to reboot a property no matter how flimsy or thin the premise seems.
Given that it's a prequel, and it's been almost 40 years since the original came out, I wouldn't expect many (read: any) of the original actors to make appearances, which brings on the minefield that will be "casting decisions for the new 'Godfather' movie." Let's just hope it isn't populated with CW stars or Ashton Kutcher, who, now that I think about it, seems like he should have a show on the CW.
