The economic downturn is causing an increasing number of women to turn to the sex trade to make ends meet. Thanks to the Internet – and especially Craigslist – the barriers for college educated, professional women to enter the sex industry have fallen.
Just down the screen from Craigslist’s job board is the site’s adult gigs section, making it easy for “normal” girls to gauge going rates, learn the lingo, and offer their services. Even though Craigslist announced it would replace its edgy erotic services area with a more expensive and monitored adult services area, it appears that the only thing that has changed is the language. You will no longer find hand jobs and BJs on Craigslist, but you’ll find plenty of “sweet treats” and erotic “massages.”
Strip clubs, photographers, adult Web cam companies and escort managers around the country have seen an increase in applications since the beginning of the year. Unfortunately for the women applying, it’s a precisely the same time that the adult business is seeing its own downturn.
