ATM Glitch Let's Man Overdraw By $1.5 Million, Loses it All Gambling
This guy might have a gambling problem. In addition to lots of other problems. Like being an idiot, for one.
However, for once a consumer was able to stick it to Bank of America, so maybe we should cut the guy some slack and congratulate him on being so damn lucky. Then wildly unlucky. Ronald Page found that he had a magical account that would let him constantly withdraw money even though he had none. To the tune of $1.5 million.
And you better believe that Ronald Page blew all that cash gambling! HELL YEAH HE DID! To be fair, though, if he had bought a house or set up a scholarship fund, the bank would have just taken it back, whereas if he won a lot gambling, he may have been able to hang on to the difference. So really, Ronald Page is kinda smart.
Not smart enough to not get caught, though. When BofA learned of the mistake, they sent him an unpleasant letter, and when he didn't have the funds, he was arrested for theft. Page is no probably facing a 15-month prison sentence. The term was lightened after the judge decided that Bank of America was at fault for allowing this to happen.
Stupid Bank of America.
