Are You Living in One of America's Drunkest Cities?
The Daily Beast has published their breakdown of America's drunkest cities. The results are a mixed bag. Some cities are no-brainers, like #1 Milwaukee and #8 Boston, but others are head-scratchingly strange, like #10 San Diego and #3 San Francisco. Their conclusions are drawn from a composite of liver failure stats(!), average drinks per month, and percentage of residents who consider themselves binge drinkers.
There doesn't seem to be much of a common theme running through the top 50 cities. Some are well-off, some are middle class. Many have nice weather, and many are midwestern and northeastern hellholes. New Orleans comes in at a lowly #25, which leads me to believe that everything I learned about the geography of alcoholism is completely wrong. Take a look at the list here and see if your city makes the cut. With lots of help from you, of course.
