Haven’t we all been promised personal jet packs in the future? Well I want mine now! Enough waiting already. Unfortunately, while we seem to be getting closer to being able to fly around on individual jet packs, the technology still has a way to go.

Yves Rossy, an ex-military pilot, has been working on not just your ordinary jet pack, but a wicked cool jet wing. While the jet wing doesn’t launch you into the air like a jet pack, it can shoot you horizontally at 115 mph after jumping out of an airplane. Sounds cool, doesn’t it?

Last Wednesday Rossy attempted to use his jet wing to fly from Europe to Africa across the straits of Gibraltar which is about 23 miles. Just minutes into the flight Rossy suffered a wing malfunction and dropped into the water. At least he got a cool video out of it:

While Rossy is fine, it looks like we’ll be waiting a bit longer for that cool jet pack.
