In our continuous search for the manliest of men, we find Brazilian daredevil Pedro Olivia. Pedro recently set a world record by plunging down Brazil?s 127-foot-high Salto Belo waterfall – a tributary of the Amazon – in just his kayak.
It took only 2.9 seconds for Pedro to go over the enormous falls, breaking the existing world record for descent in a kayak (also known as insanity), which had previously stood at 108ft. The 26 year old survived thanks to a soft water landing created by special currents under the falls.
The drop at Salto Belo is nearly twice that of puny Niagara Falls. 5,000 cubic feet of water stream over the falls every second. Before making the plunge, Pedro had to carefully find the right spot along the 100 ft wide waterfall that had no boulders. Pedro found it, went over head first, and emerged unharmed behind the falls.
Here’s Pedro in all his short-lived glory (you may want to replay it a couple of times to get the full impact). Sir, we salute your manliness.
