Cool Rider: The Low-Rent Segway

If you’re too cheap to buy a real Segway, now there’s the Cool Rider. It’s essentially a self-powered scooter that responds to your body’s movement.

The Cool Rider – which looks much less dorky than a Segway – zips you along at 12 mph and will set you back $1250. While not cheap, that’s about a quarter of the price of a Segway.

It’s powered by a big wheel that incorporates the motor inside. You can even detach the scooter and just use the big wheel with a pair of roller blades:

These sinful sinks – shaped to look like a woman bending over – recently appeared on the street in Chongqing, China. To wash your hands you have to sidle up next to the woman’s behind and reach over. The basins were considered so risque that someone put underwear on them. Yeah, that helps.

Buy Ferris Bueller’s House

OK, technically this isn’t Ferris Bueller’s house, it’s the house of Ferris’ buddy Cameron, but it can be yours for a mere $2.3 million. The home, located in Highland Park, Illinois, actually consists of two steel and glass buildings with a total of 5,300 square feet and it’s stunning.

The house is the setting for the infamous scene in the 80s classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’” in which a peeved Cameron Frye sends his father’s vintage Ferrari through its glass window and into the woods. That is among dozens of crimes recently recounted in loving detail on the web.

Apparently they got that plate glass window fixed because the house is a stunner. Designed by architects A. James Speyer and David Hald, the house is described by Sotheby’s as “an amazing architectural treasure” and we couldn’t agree more. The house is cantilevered over a ravine and the floor-to-ceiling glass windows provide incredible vistas of the surrounding woods.

The Amazing Toast Launcher Gizmo

Let’s face it, some mornings it’s just too much work to pull the toast out of the toaster. Luckily, there’s the amazing new toast launcher!

Yes, this little gizmo does actually launch your perfectly toasted bread through the air and hopefully on to your plate. You can even set the velocity and angle of your toast’s flight path so that it lands with precision.

The toaster is part of the Dutch designer Ivo Vos’s “Brunch” collection of interesting and not particularly practical kitchen equipment. Vos’ Brunch project has something to do with indicting the Western obsession with perfection, order, and the ridiculous anxiety around domestication. Whatever – we just think it’s cool.

As you may have noticed, Just a Guy Thing hasn?t been posting articles for awhile. Let?s just say we were on an extended vacation. A hiatus. A sabbatical, if you will. OK, OK we dropped off the face of the earth.

So what did we do with our time off? Well, we spent quiet time with our friends?

There was a bit of drinking?

But then we slept it off?

And now we feel like a new man?

And we can get back to our real jobs?

So we?re back baby, and better than ever. Or at least as good. Probably. You?ll have to stay tuned to find out.
