Women want their men to be macho, but what they don’t tell you is they want that macho man to have a sensitive side. Unless you want to look like a salmon, don’t buy an orangy-pink shirt. By the same token, you will look gay if you strut out onto the dancefloor in a delightfully sthuper shade of fuschia. Oh, and never, ever, ever, ever wear a pink ruffled shirt. Unless, of course, you are actually gay.

Instead of orange, fuschia or ruffled pink shirts, go for a nice pale pink that offsets your skin tone. Always go for 100% cotton linen to avoid nasty nipple chafing at the end of the night.

We all know that over a period of time, our wardrobes accumulate a large number of unwanted, unfashionable, and unsightly clothes that for whatever reason, we wouldn’t be caught dead in! It’s very easy to keep piling up the mess and when it starts to spill out onto the bedroom floor a good solid push will send the tat straight to the back of the wardrobe. Out of sight, out of mind. I’ve done it myself on many occasions.

So, without further ado, here’s how to separate the stylish threads from the charity shop-bound junk.

8 simple steps to banish bad clothes from your wardrobe

Step 1

Throw everything you own onto the bed! It will make it much easier to sort through. Now you can clean out your wardrobe and replace those old, nasty wire coat hangers (that absolutely destroy your clothes) with wooden ones; half a dozen for your suits and maybe a dozen for your shirts.

Step 2

Store your gym/holiday clothes separately so that you’re not always going through piles of unsuitable clothes whenever you’re looking for something to wear. Ideally, you can put them in an under-bed storage bag. Also, if you can, keep special occasion clothes elsewhere too. Perhaps a separate wardrobe.

Step 3

Match up your ties with your shirts. Unless you’re going to buy a shirt especially for your stray ties that don’t currently go with anything, you can just go ahead and throw them away. I find it simplifies things by hanging appropriate ties over suitable shirts to save time when it comes to getting dressed.

Step 4

Banish anything that you haven’t worn in years, doesn’t fit, still has a price tag on (unless it’s brand new, obviously), that needs repairing or is only good for decorating in. There’s no sentiment in fashion, so don’t get attached to your clothes.

Step 5

Make sure that everything that’s left still goes with at least three other items - even if one of those is a plain white t-shirt. Bin all items that go with nothing else. (Or store them if you’re still having a bit of trouble letting go!)

Step 6

Buy replacements for items you know you look good in. Write down a list of items you look good in, clothes you need to create new outfits and any basics you need more of.

Step 7

Keep an eye out for clothes that need maintenance. Keeping your clothes looking good is as important as what you wear. Take care of missing or loose buttons, creased fabrics, worn shoes, and faded colours. If you’re not particularly fussed about eliminating old clothes, you can always buy replacements instead.

Step 8

Take some time to look at the banished clothes before you throw them out. This is the time to assess your mistakes so you don’t make them again. Why did you buy them in the first place and why didn’t you wear them? It might make you less inclined to impulsively buy something you’re never going to wear next time.

The final thing worth mentioning in your Great Clothing Clear Out is banishing clothes moths. There’s nothing worse than pulling out your prized cashmere sweater to find that it’s been devoured and destroyed by a clothes moth. Fight back with cedar moth balls, pheromone traps and good old-fashioned hoovering/vacuum cleaning.

Also, moths are attracted to grease and sweat. When packing away winter coats, sweaters and so on, store them in vacuum storage bags.

Believe it or not, India has given us much more than spicy takeout food and fancy Bollywood movies. The word pyjama is Hindu for “leg garment” and is now the superstar of bedroom attire.

Every guy should know that the best dress code for pyjama parties is toned bare chests. If you’re in slippers with a matching top and smoking a pipe, chances are you’re not coming in and you definitely won’t be getting any if you wear that outfit in the bedroom.

Any decent clothing store in your local shopping centre should sell pyjamas. This is the style you’re looking for.

So there you go. A quick and simple way to dress your way to more sex. Guaranteed*.

In our article 7 Gadgets James Bond Wishes He Had, we looked at some brilliant little devices for all you wannabe secret agents! Now we’re going to take it a step further and make sure that you look the part too.

James Bond has been the epitome of style and looking good since Roger Moore became the third man to portray 007 in Live and Let Die in 1973. James Bonds’ Shoes – John Lobb ‘Luffield’ Shoes

Elegant, stylish, understated. These shoes epitomise everything that is James Bond. With the right suit, these shoes can transform you from a normal bloke into a sophisticated man. They don’t come cheap though. John Lobb shoes retail anywhere from £500 upwards. You can find out more information on these shoes at www.johnlobb.com. (Choose your country, then Ready To Wear, then Derby, then Prestige and finally choose the Luffield shoe. I hate flash websites by the way!)

Obviously, if you’re James Bond, money is no object. Us mortals, however, may need to find a cheaper alternative.

Magnoli Clothiers provide bespoke and custom made shoes at an affordable price and guess what? They have created their own “Royale Shoes” to emulate the Luffield style.

The cost to you is a much more affordable $310 (approximately £156) and they look identical to the untrained eye.

The James Bond Suit

Now unless you’ve got a spare £2,500 (approximately $5,000) to spend on a Brioni suit, you’re not going to get the exact Bond style in your suit. Luckily, our friends over at Magnoli Clothiers have come up trumps again by creating a couple of James Bond inspired items for a much more reasonable price.

The Goldfinger Royale suit is similar to the suit worn by Daniel Craig at the end of Casino Royale, and is based on the classic Goldfinger suit donned by Sean Connery all those years ago. It’s very stylish, very sexy and very affordable at $499 (approx £252).

Every actor that has portrayed James Bond on the big screen has invariable worn shirts and ties by the world renowned shirt makers Turnbull & Asser. Daniel Craig donned their attire in his Bond debut and it makes perfect sense that if you too are looking to emulate the Bond look then you should wear only the best.

The “Limited Collection” shirt is made from a super fine, two fold, white-on-white cotton. Using a classic silhouette, the shirt has been designed with a unique collar, specifically designed by Turnbull & Asser, which is featured in the film. He’s badass, sexy, and as Vesper says in the film, he “wears his suit with such disdain.”

In short, he’s every normal red blooded man on the planet (albeit with a seemingly limitless clothing budget, government funded training and access to the most amazing gadgets known to man!).

Recently, I’ve been getting a lot of e-mails from readers asking for advice on what to wear for a job interview. It seems that a lot of people are a little unsure of what to wear for a job interview. Do you dress up in a full suit with matching cufflinks and tie? Or do you dress down and turn up smart casual?

There are many varying opinions on the subject but, for me, there is one answer which fits better than any other. It depends.

It depends on the position you’re applying for. It depends on whether or not you’re comfortable wearing a full suit/tie ensemble. The general consensus that I get from speaking to my friends, and their friends, is that a safe option is always dress smarter than you think you need to.

First impressions in a job interview

Dressing smarter than you think you probably need to dress is the safest option because as the old saying goes, “You don’t get a second chance at a first impression!“. I’ve turned up to an interview dressed casually before and I have immediately regretted the decision once the interviewer looked me up and down with just a hint of disdain. Apparently jeans, trainers and a t-shirt with the slogan “fancy a fcuk” are not suitable for a job interview!

Fashion tips for a job interview

I’ve compiled a quick list of fashion tips to make sure that the preparation for your job interview goes smoothly. Obviously, I can’t guarantee that the interview will go so smoothly - that’s down to you!

1. A plain white shirt. Nothing says professional better than a simple and stylish white shirt.
2. Black shoes. Simple, elegant shoes can say more about a man than anything else. Make sure they’re well polished.
3. Plain black socks. No one wants to see you rocking neon green socks at an interview! Leave them at home.
4. A black belt. No, I don’t mean you need to be good at karate! A nice black belt to match your shoes will do just fine. Bonus points for a belt with a stylish (but not overly elaborate) buckle.
5. A plain suit. For the first interview I’d keep it simple and stick to a plain suit with no patterns or pinstripes. Exude confidence and professionalism.

And now for the pièce de résistance:

6. A pink - yes, I did say PINK - tie. You need something to make you stand out from the crowd. Something to make the interviewer remember you. You can’t be wacky and outgoing because you need to look professional and competent. I have a hot pink tie which never ceases to become a conversation starter during, and after, my interviews. Real men can wear pink - if they choose to!

There are other ways to stand out from the crowd of potentials that are applying for the same job, but wearing a bright coloured tie requires little effort. All you need now is to learn how to tie a tie.

General interview appearance

Of course, dressing the part won’t be enough if you smell like a hermit and your hair looks like you got dragged through a hedge backwards! You’ll also need to follow these extra appearances tips so that you don’t fall at the first hurdle:

• Don’t wear jewellery. Unless you’re Snoop Dogg (and if you are, you wouldn’t be attending a job interview), leave the bling at home!
• Make sure your hair is neat. The castaway look is out - so keep it looking tidy.
• Clean nails. You don’t want dirt under your nails when you go to shake hands with your interviewer. Also, keep them clipped and don’t bite them!
• Just a splash of aftershave. You don’t want to spray it on with a crop-duster and overpower them! A couple of splashes on your neck - oh and one for Big Ben. As Alfie says, “You never know where the day may take you.”
• Empty your pockets. There’s no need for jingling coins or bulges.
• Turn your phone off! Or at the very least, put it on silent.

Follow these tips and you won’t go far wrong. Above all else, make sure that your personality and individual talent gets you noticed. With my help you can walk the walk - but it’s you that has to talk the talk!

The New Year has arrived and, for many people, it is a time for resolutions that will improve their lives. A new wardrobe is just such a resolution. It’s a well known fact that if you’re dressed well you feel more confident and attract all kinds of female attention.

How To Dress According To Your Size

The first thing you need to know in order to look sexy this year is how to dress appropriately for your size. There are certain no-no’s and what I like to call ‘best-dress practices’ for different builds of man. If done correctly, you too can look hot! Let’s look at the different types of guy and see if we can come up with some sort of fashion strategy:

• The thin guy. Choosing the right clothes for a skinny bloke is quite difficult. It’s more about the size and fit of the garments, rather than the style and appearance of them. If you’re thin, you don’t want to be wearing tight clothes because this will only make you look thinner. At the other end of the scale, if the clothes are too baggy they will just look poorly fitted and you will come across as a skinny guy pretending not to be skinny!
  
  The aim is to find a balance between tight and bulky. The look you’re trying to achieve here is svelte rather than malnourished!
• The big guy. You can take the emphasis away from the fact you are a bigger man by wearing dark, solid colours, or pinstripes. Don’t wear patterned t-shirts because they will highlight your width, which then highlights your weight.

  Don’t wear clothes that are too tight! The key tip here is to keep it simple with plain, dark colours.

• The short guy. Don’t wear long jackets. This will emphasise your lack of height. You want to appear as tall as possible and this can be done with vertical lines. A pinstripe suit will give you the visual appearance of someone taller.

  Avoid bright, busy patterns like the plague!

• The tall guy. The advice here is pretty much the opposite of a short guy’s fashion. Don’t wear vertical pinstripes because guess what? It’s only going to make you look taller.

  Well fitted trousers will make you look less lanky and, if you can, try to find clothing with horizontal stripes as this draws the eyes attention away from your height.

Ready For The Looking Sexy Part?

Okay, we’ve established our fashion strategy, now it’s time to look at the different trends and styles for looking sexy in 2008!

Smart Casual (Geek Chic)

This look is very much in at the moment and is quite popular with celebrities such as David Beckham, Brad Pitt and Justin Timberlake. The palette is neutral and earthy tones which is both sexy and sophisticated. I’m a big fan of this look, having dressed this way for sometime now.

The style combines a jumper (sweater if you’re American) or cardigan, with a dress shirt and jeans or dark trousers. You can then take the look that extra step further with a brown leather belt and leather strap watch. If you’re a shorter man, you can wear pinstripe trousers. This look suits skinny guys and big guys alike. Even the tall men can get in on this! Check out the following links to achieve this look:

Perfect for keeping you warm in the winter months. This look is ideally suited to big-buckle belts, baggy jeans and canvas shoes.

Here’s a quick checklist of must-have fashion accessories for the modern man in 2008:

A top quality belt – I’m a massive belt fan! I just can’t have too many of them. I’ve got subtle black leather belts, distressed brown leather belts with giant buckles, canvas belts, red belts and even a pink pyramid stud belt (hey, I went through a punk phase!). The most popular look right now is the distressed leather style.

Also, if you’re a complete geek like me, then this Nintendo belt buckle is just a dream come true!

A sexy watch – A good quality watch is almost certain to strike the eye of anyone you meet, and it can make or break your look. I prefer the thick leather wrist strap style with a nice big face.

My favourites are the Fossil Hardware and Degrade watches. They are very affordable and look fantastic!

A wool hat – Beanie visor hats are extremely fashionable and very popular around this time of year. Perfect if you’re hungover from all the New Years festivities and don’t want to do your hair!
