The folks over at AskMen.com have posted the 29 best cities to live in. At the top of the list: Chicago which was cited for a winning combination of culture, entertainment and sophistication along with an affordable lifestyle. Rounding out the top 5 best cities were Barcelona, Spain, San Francisco, London, and Sydney, Australia.

Helping to push Chicago to the top of the list is its bid to become the host city for the 2016 summer Olympics. Add to that entertainment options like Lollapalooza and cultural amenities like the new modern wing of the Art Institute of Chicago opening in May, and it’s easy to se why AskMen editors found the city so appealing, despite the harsh winters.

Barcelona sports a mild Mediterranean climate, beautiful nearby beaches, a healthy economy, and a distinct culture. Throw in the amazing architecture of Gaudi, fresh seafood, and a laid-back lifestyle (siesta, anyone?), and you’ve got a world-class city that any guy could enjoy.

The beauty of the city, along with its recreational opportunities, culture, and thriving economy all were factors in San Francisco’s high placement. The AskMen editors point out that while the male/female ratio in the city is pretty even, the large male gay community in San Francisco means that the scales are actually tipped in straight men’s favor.

Other prominent cities on the list were New York (coming in at #6), Paris (#10), Rome (#12), and Los Angeles (#19). Check out the full list here, although be forewarned that you’ll have to do a lot of clicking to see all the cities.
