Bartab App Helps Use Your Phone to Get You (and Others) Drunk

With so much noise from useless Facebook and smartphone apps, it's difficult to realize when a good one comes through. JAGT is here to help you with that.
Take Bartab, an application that is already live in San Francisco and quickly following (next week) in New York and Los Angeles. With Bartab, you are able to buy your friends drinks (not stupid little drink icons on Facebook, but actual drinks) using the that wonderful series of the tubes known as the internet.
Here's how the program works on the user end:
1. You log into your account on Bartab. It operates through Facebook, so if you're logged into Facebook, you're logged into the app.
2. Pick the friend you want to buy a drink for.
3. Pick the bar where you want to buy them a drink (this app only works with participating bars, but is expected to grow quickly as it has in SF).
4. Pay a dollar and send them a drink. You pay a dollar, they get a drink (limit one per donator per venue per night).
5. Your friend then gets sent a message and code that they have been given a drink. They take that code to the bartender at the participating establishment and redeem their drink. They must pay a dollar for the drink, as in many locales, it's illegal for bars to give booze away.
6. They drink and owe you one.
The beauty of this app is that it can be used to a number of ends. Want all your friends to meet you at your favorite sports bar to watch a game? Rather than pelt them with texts and calls, send them a drink there. It will work miracles. It's also a nice way to send someone a non-digital gift for their birthday. It works well for bars, cause they get to give away a cheap round, but get foot traffic that they otherwise might not have captured.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in, visit the Bartab website and get the ball rolling. If you're not in the three cities, be patient, the digital age has all but ensured that this type of thing is right around the corner for virtually everyone. Kudos to Bartab for getting a jump on it.
