Using carbon fiber or lightweight aluminum to build a car is so 2008. How about a wood car instead?
A graduate student in North Carolina is building a supercar out of wood that will eventually have over 600 horsepower and a top speed of 200 miles per hour.
As a graduate project at North Carolina State University Joe Harmon is slowly putting together his dream car called The Splinter. Wood will be used wherever possible, including the chassis, body, and much of the suspension components and wheels.

Harmon is aiming for a target weight of 2500lbs and a power goal of over 600 horsepower. He has created a prototype of the Splinter, but is waiting to graduate and get a job before finally getting the car running. Good luck Joe!
